 Full time Sous Chef at Casa Mia in Vancouver, BC

Shifts:  Sunday (9am-5:30pm), Monday - Thursday (10am - 6:30pm)

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Sous Chef to join our culinary team in a long-term care home environment. The Sous Chef will work closely with the Executive Chef to support the planning, preparation, and execution of high-quality, nutritious meals for our residents.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Executive Chef in overseeing day-to-day kitchen operations, including meal preparation, staff supervision, and inventory management
  • Ensure that all meals meet resident dietary needs, texture modifications, and nutritional requirements in accordance with health authority and dietitian guidelines
  • Support the development and implementation of seasonal menus, special diets, and resident-focused meal plans

  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness, safety, and sanitation in all food preparation and storage areas, following HACCP and infection control protocols

  • Supervise, train, and mentor kitchen staff to promote a collaborative and efficient work environment

  • Monitor food quality, portion control, and presentation to ensure consistent resident satisfaction

  • Manage food and supply ordering in coordination with the Executive Chef and maintain cost-effective inventory control

  • Step in as acting Executive Chef in their absence, ensuring continuity of service, staff leadership, and regulatory compliance

  • Collaborate with dietary aides, care staff, and management to support residents' nutritional well-being and satisfaction

  • Participate in audits, inspections, and quality improvement initiatives as required

Skills and Abilities

  • Red Seal Certification or Culinary Arts diploma preferred

  • Food Safe Level 1 (or equivalent) required

  • Previous experience in a healthcare, long-term care, or senior living setting strongly preferred

  • Proven ability to supervise and lead a kitchen team

  • Knowledge of special diets, therapeutic textures, and resident-centered food service

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and time-management skills

  • Compassionate, respectful approach to serving seniors and working with interdisciplinary teams

About us: 
Casa Mia is a heritage estate property located along Vancouver’s Southwest Marine Drive. Casa Mia is opening Spring 2023. This heritage home will offer 90 long term care beds, consisting of primarily single occupancy rooms. Many with expansive views over the Fraser River. Casa Mia is a storied 1930’s mansion boasting views of gorgeous grounds, the Fraser River, Georgia Straight, and the mountains of Vancouver Island. With large windows, homelike furnishings, and compassionate care givers, our residents are well taken care of. This estate home features three stories with a grand dining area, ballroom, recreation areas and large outdoor patios on each floor. The desirable location and newly built home provide our clients with a modern care environment with a throwback to Vancouver’s heritage. Casa Mia works in collaboration with the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority to offer funded beds but also has 32 private pay rooms available.
