Our edible education programs empower students to learn, cook, and share food with their peers and school community. We use edible education to transform the classroom and lunchroom into opportunities for students to experience dignity, delight, and belonging in their interaction with food.
We’re looking for someone who loves to collaborate, has experience putting out large volumes of food, enjoys working with kids, is creative and imaginative in the kitchen, and has a passion for nourishing food and supporting food literacy.
Salary: $41,874.56 Annually (based on $28.76 per hour, 28 hours per week), this annual salary will be pro-rated for partial years of employment.
Benefits: 100% Employer-Paid Health and dental plan and $500 annual additional HSA/LSA annual fund (after 3 months employed); three weeks paid vacation + one-week paid summer shutdown per year + two-week paid winter shutdown per year; 12 paid personal wellness days per year (aka sick days); annual professional development funding; paid volunteer days.
Schedule & Location: Four to five weekdays, (generally between 9am - 5pm) onsite service delivery in Vancouver schools (exact location TBD). Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.
Anticipated Start Date: As soon as possible (flexible for the next superstar LunchLAB chef!)
Contract Period: Indefinite term beginning January 6th, 2025
Position Summary:
Your role will be mentor, educator, and chef. Each week, you’ll work with kids and youth to teach them new skills, helping them understand the art and science of cooking and nutrition as well as the joy and celebration of connection to nourishing food.
Through day-to-day kitchen operations, meal planning, ordering, preparation, and service, the Chef-in-Residence, together with our sous chefs, deliver engaging, non-stigmatizing, nourishing, and culturally-relevant meals that kids want to eat while providing embedded food literacy education and mentorship.
Chef-in-Residence positions are responsible for the day-to-day kitchen operations at LunchLAB including meal planning, preparation, service delivery coverage in schools and service at their assigned location(s); as well as delivery of edible education programming through our flagship Classroom Program and SOYL summer program in partnership with Fresh Roots Urban Farm Society.

Candidates selected to continue in the interview process can expect 1-2 trial shifts (on-site in our programs), followed by a 1-hr virtual interview.
In recognition of the labour that goes into the interview process, applicants selected for a trial shift and/or interview will receive an honorarium based on $25/hour for their time.
