Position Overview:

As a Prep Cook at The Soup Meister’s Nephew, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the seamless operation of our kitchen. You'll be responsible for preparing a variety of ingredients for use in our soups, stews, stocks, and broths. With precision and consistency, meet the demands of our fast-casual service, retail sales, and wholesale distribution. This is a hands-on position that requires a passion for culinary excellence, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a high-volume environment. Intermediate to Advanced knife skills are a must.

The ideal candidate will be a graduate of VCC Culinary Arts program (or similar) and/or have 1-3 years experience gained from a reputable restaurant.


Key Responsibilities:

- Prepare fresh ingredients for use in soups, stews, stocks, and broths according to established recipes and quality standards

- Assist in the efficient operation of the kitchen, ensuring timely production to meet customer demand

- Execute food preparation tasks with precision and attention to detail, maintaining consistency in size, shape, flavor and presentation

- Contribute to inventory management by monitoring stock levels, rotating ingredients, and minimizing waste

- Provide excellent customer service by interacting with customers during point-of-sale transactions and addressing any inquiries regarding our culinary offerings

- Adhere to food safety and sanitation guidelines to maintain a clean and organized workspace

- Portioning of soups to a high level of consistency

- Labeling, Inventorying, Stocking and Displaying soups for retail sales

- Other general kitchen duties as required


Qualifications:

- Previous experience as a Prep Cook in a high-volume production kitchen

- Strong knowledge of food safety practices and culinary techniques; FoodSafe Level 1 mandatory

- Intermediate to Advanced knife skills

- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

- Customer service-oriented mindset with a friendly and approachable demeanour

- Point of Sales and Customer interactions considered an asset

- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
