We’re looking for a talented and experienced First Cook to join our dynamic culinary team at one of Vancouver’s premier private clubs. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a passion for quality food, teamwork, and a desire to grow in a fast-paced, professional kitchen.
The First Cook plays an essential role in the kitchen, working under the direction of the Sous Chef to ensure the efficient and effective operation of their assigned station. They are responsible for preparing high-quality meals, ensuring kitchen efficiency and maintaining top-tier food safety and presentation standards. Your strong culinary skills, attention to detail, and ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment set you apart from others. You may also assist with training junior staff to ensure our brand new kitchen remains clean and organized.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Prepare and execute menu items according to established recipes, quality standards, and presentation guidelines.
- Maintain strong attention to detail, consistency, portion control, and efficiency during service.
- Ensure mise en place is completed accurately and stations are fully prepared for service.
- Work collaboratively with the Sous Chef and kitchen team to support smooth daily operations.
- Assist with training and supporting junior kitchen staff as needed.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary workstation in compliance with health and safety standards.
- Follow proper food handling, labeling, storage, rotation (FIFO), and temperature logging procedures.
- Monitor inventory levels, report shortages, and support waste reduction and food cost control initiatives.
- Stay informed of menu changes, special features, and preparation standards to ensure consistent execution.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of culinary experience in a professional/corporate kitchen with a focus on cooking, preparation & execution
- Strong knowledge of various cooking techniques, food safety practices & kitchen equipment
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent organizational skills & ability to work effectively under pressure with minimal supervision while maintaining high-quality standards
- Strong communication skills and the ability to take direction from senior kitchen staff.
- Experience working in a team environment and willingness to assist and mentor junior team members.
- Knowledge of health, safety, and sanitation standards in a professional kitchen.
- Current FoodSafe BC Certificate

WORK CONDITIONS
- Working in a high-paced, high-pressure kitchen environment.
- Standing for long periods, handling hot kitchen equipment, and managing heavy lifting (e.g., pots, pans, and kitchen supplies).
- Working shifts that include evenings, weekends, and holidays. Typical shifts include working both Saturdays & Sundays. Weekday shifts may be mornings, afternoons or evenings based on business needs.
WAGE: $27.05 per hour + bonus eligibility
